Three common reasons a switch will not fit

Mechanical / Hall-effect confusion

Hall-effect boards need compatible magnetic switches and firmware behaviour. A familiar stem shape does not make a contact switch compatible.

Low-profile mismatch

Low-profile families vary in height, pin position, plate opening and keycap system. Treat each board and switch family as its own specification.

Five-pin assumptions

A plate-mounted board may accept three-pin switches while a five-pin switch needs compatible PCB holes. Clipping legs is irreversible and is not an automatic recommendation.
